Soon You May Know Exactly Where Your Diamond Was Mined

“The social and economic value of diamonds is very different depending on where they come from in the world,” Mr. Moltke said on a video call earlier this month from his home in Antwerp, Belgium. He moved to the city, a diamond trading hub, after leaving De Beers, where he had worked for 16 years, including five years in Gaborone, Botswana’s capital.

“I saw firsthand how these diamonds do good and how important it is for those communities who live off them,” he said.

This month, International Diamond Center, a 12-store jewelry retailer based in Clearwater, Fla., is planning to introduce Botswanamark’s branded diamonds at four of its stores, Mr. Moltke said, adding that the consumer experience will be similar to the De Beers model.

Greg Kwiat, chief executive of Kwiat Diamonds, a diamond jewelry brand in New York City, said the company’s Mine to Shine traceability program, introduced in June, was likewise based on a desire to show how diamonds positively affect the communities in Africa where they are mined.

Consumers who buy Kwiat diamonds are able to follow their stones from the mine through the stages of cutting and setting into jewelry. “Right now, we’re sharing videos and imagery of the process as it’s occurring,” Mr. Kwiat said. “At the end, you get this aggregated video from start to finish as a wonderful shareable memento.”

Proving mined diamonds’ origins is something the diamond industry has focused on since the late 1990s, when the blood-diamond crisis shook consumer confidence in the trade. In 2003, a coalition of governments, civil society and diamond industry established the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme, aimed at preventing the flow of conflict diamonds.

Pandora is on a Mission to Make Diamond Jewelry Accessible

Ahead of the holiday season, Pandora builds on its existing lab-grown diamond jewelry, debuting a trio of new collections that combine high-quality craftsmanship with environmentally-conscious design.

In an effort to “democratize” diamonds through ethical means, the latest jewelry pieces feature lab-grown stones with the same color, cut, clarity and carat as their mined counterparts, making them more affordable whilst also having a lower carbon footprint. Crafted using 100% renewable energy with 100% recycled silver and gold, Pandora presents three distinctive designs that shape the individual collections, named Nova, Era and Talisman.

Pandora Nova aims to showcase the unending sparkle of lab-grown diamonds. With each piece taking on a four-prong setting, the round and princess-cut stones are able to capture and refract surrounding light from each angle. This design is replicated in chains, studs and a 14 carat gold ring. Whilst Nova takes on a contemporary look, the Pandora Era collection subscribes to a classic feel featuring a minimalistic bezel setting. An understated array of single drop pendants as well as three-set stones arrive in a mix of 14 carat white gold and yellow gold.

Making a statement amongst the line-up is the Pandora Talisman collection. Comprised of five pendant designs – including a heart, star, moon and horseshoe – the respective pieces bring a luxurious take on Pandora charms with a touch of individuality running through each piece. The pendants come with matching chains or can be bought individually, allowing wearers to mix and match on bracelets or necklaces.

The new collection makes its debut in the brand’s latest campaign titled “Diamonds for All.” Exploring the way lab-grown diamonds break traditions through all-round wearability, the campaign sees Pamela Anderson, Justina Miles and other public figures share how these jewelry pieces bring elegance as well as

Consumer Report: Lab-Grown Diamonds

The market for lab-grown diamonds is exploding this wedding season, putting larger gems onto more hands than ever.

But some say that shine can wear off when the synthetic stones quickly lose their value.

Pandora, the largest jeweler in the world, is now very much in the diamond business.

Last year, the company that’s well-known for its accessible charm bracelets began selling lab-grown diamonds set in rings and other jewelry.

The diamonds are offered at prices Pandora says make sense for their slice of the jewelry market.

“What we are seeing a lot is people that always dreamed but never had a chance to buy a diamond. Now they can,” said Luciano Rodembusch, Pandora’s North American President.

At Pandora, a one carat diamond ring goes for less than $2,000, while a 2-carat piece sells for roughly $5,000, a fraction of what similar, mined stones would cost.

Pandora says its lab-created diamonds are manufactured in U.S. facility using 100% renewable energy.

“Ours are going to be one-fifth to one-seventh of the price,” Rodembusch said.

According to The Knot, the popularity of lab-grown diamonds has doubled since 2020.

In 2022, more than a third of engagement ring center stones were manufactured, not mined.

Regardless of the source, the diamonds are visually and chemically the same.

But, some argue that there is a key value difference.

Olivia Landau, co-founder and CEO of custom jewelry company The Clear Cut, sells only natural diamonds, which she says hold or even increase in monetary value.

“Lab grown diamonds hold zero value. They’re mass produced. You can create an endless supply of them,” Landau said. “They’re kind of the fast-fashion of diamonds, whereas natural diamonds do hold inherent value.”

The Clear Cut does use lab-grown diamonds but it actually gives them away for free,

1. Oval centers

There is nothing not to love about a classic oval cut. If you’re on the hunt for simple elegance, an oval solitaire will never go out of style. Looking for a little more pizazz? Try an oval center with trapezoid cut diamonds on either side for an extra gorgeous look.

2. Emerald centers

We have been dreaming about these rings. For brides looking for a classic, yet modern piece, you can’t go wrong with an emerald center.

Our favorites: We couldn’t keep our eyes off of this yellow gold setting with round-cut diamonds on the band AND a hidden halo (left). For a trendier look, an emerald center with a bezel halo was another winner (right).

The Diamond Bank Is A Hidden Gem Against LA’s Jewelry Trove

It’s often said that artists are defined by their eyes and how they see the world around them, which extends into the art of jewelry making and craftsmanship. Diamond diving is more precarious than you might imagine, for natural diamonds sparkle singularly in their own light, each one shaped and sculpted uniquely from the next. An eye for detail and diversity are required to identify true treasures, and The Diamond Bank, one of the most recognizable names in jewelry in Los Angeles and beyond, has perfected the art of ornamentation through decades of refinement and trust baked into the community, and the eyes that search for these pieces. Part of the charm that defines The Diamond Bank is their bespoke nature even after years of growth and development, retaining a distinctly artisanal quality unrivaled in the jewelry space. Much of this work is attributed to Chris Arakel, owner and lead designer, who embarked on his own journey 25 years ago.

Fittingly tucked into the folds of LA’s “Diamond District”, The Diamond Bank only became a concrete destination in 2021 when their flagship studio opened on South Hill Street. Before then, The Diamond Bank name rested heavily on the shoulders of Arakel, who frequently traveled to cities far and wide for call-ins and consultations. Still to this day, referrals remain a large part of the company’s clientele, many of them repeat and returning customers who have trusted the quality of Diamond Bank for more than a decade.

One of the largest distinctions in The Diamond Bank is their dedication to diamond diversity which, to the untrained eye, comes second or third to general size. What most people fail to realize is that diamonds themselves are a product of their environment, which affords a great deal of variety and surprises to

Chiefs get Super Bowl rings, take subtle shot at rival Bengals

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes had a stinging answer for Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase, who upon learning that his own QB Joe Burrow had picked Mahomes as the league’s best replied: “Pat who?”

“That’s who,” Mahomes posted on social media Thursday night, along with a photo of him flashing his new Super Bowl ring.

Or more accurately, that’s two.

Mahomes picked up his first ring in 2020 by leading the Chiefs to a victory over the 49ers, then added a second in February when he led Kansas City to a come-from-behind win over the Eagles. But unlike the first triumph, which came as the pandemic was beginning, the Chiefs were able to thoroughly enjoy the spoils of the latest with a ring ceremony Thursday night.

The red-carpet affair in Kansas City was closed to reporters, but Mahomes and others were happy to send out photographs. And in the case of the Chiefs’ burgeoning rivals, they were willing to take a couple of shots at Chase and the Bengals.

“That’s what you work for, to win the Super Bowl and get those rings,” Mahomes said. “They last a lifetime. To be able to see them, I know they’ve done a great job with them. I got to help out a little bit with the creating process. They did a great job.”

The rings were made by Jostens and each contains 613 diamonds along with 35 rubies for a total of 16.1 carats.

And like most Super Bowl rings these days, there were plenty of hidden meanings in the design.

Front and center are the organization’s three Lombardi Trophies, each with a marquise diamond set atop. The trophies are set against a backdrop of 19 rubies and 38 diamonds, which reflects both the 38 points the Chiefs

Largest pink diamond in 300 years discovered in Angola, company says

A big, pink diamond of 170 carats has been discovered in Angola and is claimed to be the largest such gemstone found in 300 years.

Named the “Lulo Rose,” the diamond was found at the Lulo alluvial diamond mine, the mine’s owner, the Lucapa Diamond Company, announced Wednesday on its website.

“Only one in 10,000 diamonds is coloured pink. So you’re certainly looking at a very rare article when you find a very large pink diamond,” Lucapa CEO Stephen Wetherall told The Associated Press.

The pink gemstone is expected to fetch a high value when auctioned, but Wetherall said he doesn’t know what kind of premium will be paid because of its colour.

Mine has history of large discoveries

Lulo is an alluvial mine which means the stones are recovered from a river bed. The Lucapa company is searching for underground deposits, known as kimberlite pipes, which would be the main source of the diamonds, said Wetherall, speaking from the company’s headquarters in Australia.

“We’re looking for the kimberlite pipes that brought these diamonds to the surface,” Wetherall said. “When you find these high-value large diamonds … it certainly elevates the excitement from our perspective in our hunt for the primary source.”

About 400 staff are employed at the Lulo mine, which has already produced the two largest diamonds ever found in Angola, including a 404-carat clear diamond, he said.

The pink gemstone is the fifth largest diamond found at the mine where 27 diamonds of 100 carats or more have been found, according to Lucapa.

The pink diamond will be sold by international tender by the Angolan state diamond marketing company, Sodiam. Angola’s mines make it one of the world’s top 10 producers of diamonds.

“This record and spectacular pink diamond recovered from Lulo continues to showcase Angola

Frost Yourself: A Ring Set With Nearly 30,000 Diamonds Breaks A World Record

Named “Ami” meaning immortality, the ring with the most diamonds in the world weighs 340 grams and is worth $95,243.

Indian jewelry company SWA Diamonds broke the diamonds-set-in-one-ring”Guinness World Record for most diamonds set in one ring. In a single piece, they set 24,679 diamonds after its initial design last May. It took almost three months for the computer-aided design to be completed.

“There is no greater joy than to live your dreams the way you were meant to. Our team feels accomplished and satisfied after knowing we have earned a new Guinness World Records title,” SWA Diamond’s managing director, Abdul Gafar Anadiyan, said. “It marks the triumph of entrepreneurship in the diamond sector of our state.”

Although its carats were not announced, the ring weighs 340 grams (three-quarters of a pound) and is worth $95,243.

Intricate design

Named “The Touch of Ami,” its design is inspired by the pink oyster mushroom, which symbolizes immortality and longevity. SWA Diamonds achieved the intricate structure of the ring by ring-world-record-most-diamonds-in-single-ring/40694779#”pouring liquid gold into a mold to form 41 unique mushroom petals. After, each of the thousands of natural diamonds was handset.

The previous holder of the record title was Meerut-based jeweler Harshit Bansal. In 2020, he encrusted a floral-inspired ring with 12,638 diamonds—just about half of what The Touch of Ami’s is adorned with.

SWA Diamonds are one of its country’s leading jewelry manufacturers. According to Luxuo, the Indian gems and jewelry industry is one of the most significant in the world, contributing to 29 percent of global sales.

Diamond Jewelry Advantage – Maaya Fine Jewels

Diamond Jewelry Advantage - Maaya Fine Jewels

Diamond Shopping can be a very overwhelming experience for a consumer. Diamond grading is a very subjective matter, and true grading of diamonds is at the epitome of this very subject. As a consumer, it can be tricky to decide whom to trust to ensure you are getting the right quality at the right price.

Unfortunately, due to immense competition, there are a lot of cases of malpractices taking place, and certain laboratories are giving false grading of diamonds and manipulating qualities. This has been happening for few years now as mentioned in one of our earlier articles on diamond prices.

We spoke to Nihar Parikh from Maaya Fine Jewels, a Manufacturer/Retailer of diamond jewelry since 1975, to help consumers recognize the right way to buy diamonds. He quoted, “At a consumer level, many customers find it hard to differentiate genuine quality. Sometimes, an avid buyer of diamond jewelry can recognize the quality of diamonds by seeing the shine and color (whiteness), compared to weaker diamond jewelry that looks grey, brown, or appears dull.

Its also important to understand the difference between buying from a retail store vs a manufacturer. A manufacturer like us can vouch for the quality and can give guarantees on the weights and quality of the product along with genuine US lab certification.

Also, our entire team is well-trained in grading diamonds, unlike a salesperson or a manager at a retail store. The goal at Maaya is to bridge this gap between the manufacturer and the end consumer.”

At Maaya Fine Jewels, they source their diamonds in the loose form from reputed DeBeers certified siteholders (companies that specialize in natural diamond mining and cutting) and set it in artistic jewelry designs under their own roof and supervision. This gives reassurance to the customer that
