Inside Ellen Pompeo’s Mother-Daughter Date to Michael Kors

Unsurprisingly, Ellen Pompeo can carry on a full conversation while having eyelash glue applied to her face.

“I’ve been doing it a long time,” Pompeo says as makeup artist Hung Vanngo works his magic.

The “Grey’s Anatomy” star — and glam chair pro — is in New York for a few days, the cornerstone event being attending Michael Kors’ show Wednesday morning. The trip provided a good excuse for a little mother-daughter trip, so Pompeo has brought along her 8-year-old daughter Sienna; they spent Valentine’s Day having a playdate with one of Sienna’s friends, and are off to the Kors show together.

While Pompeo gets glammed, sipping coconut water as Aaliyah and Boyz II Men play overhead, Sienna hangs out near her mom, playing with toys in her pajamas.

“It was a nice little chance for us to just have a little time together,” Pompeo says of the girls’ trip.

It will be Sienna’s second fashion show after the whole family traveled to Italy last year for a Dolce & Gabbana show.

“I’m looking forward to actually seeing Sienna’s face,” Pompeo says of taking her daughter to the Kors show. “She’s 8 years old, but she loves the glamour.”

While Wednesday was the first Kors runway show she’d attended, Pompeo has known the designer for years.

“Back in the day when the Met Ball was a little more of a smaller event, a little more of a New York event, I used to go with him,” she said. “I went as his date a couple of times.”

Now that she is stepping back some from her role as a regular on “Grey’s,” Pompeo has more time to do things like come to New York for a fashion show, as well as star in other projects. She’ll

Kate Hudson brought her signature boho chic vibes and took business casual to a whole new level in a sizzling head-to-toe black look.

Representing Michael Kors in a blazer and bandeau combination — which she calls the “best of both worlds” — Kate stole the show in the front row for the designer’s fall/winter 2023 show during New York Fashion Week.

Kate shared a behind-the-scenes look at her getting-ready process on Instagram, including a shot of the finished product.

Kate opted for a two-piece set from Kors that accentuated her trim and toned physique and perfectly encapsulated her ethereal-meets-elegant vibe.

Donning all black, the 43-year-old actress paired a halter-neck bandeau top with a blazer and a flowy maxi skirt with a thigh-high slit.

The slit on Kate’s skirt provided a tasteful peek at her shapely legs, while the bandeau top highlighted her trim midsection. She paired her ensemble with a pair of classic black pumps and a black clutch, accessorizing with fun abstract dangle earrings and some gold rings.

‘Women who break rules intrigue me’: Michael Kors channels Gloria Steinem | New York fashion week

Gloria Steinem may, for most people, be known as a key figure in feminism. But she is also increasingly gaining a reputation as a style icon.

The latest evidence appeared around the hips of models at the Michael Kors show at New York fashion week on Wednesday. Many of them wore a version of the low-slung, decorated belt that has become a Steinem signature. It appeared over sweater dresses, flares and miniskirts.

Steinem’s belt, with its silver decoration, is often a concho – a design that has its roots in Navajo culture. In a steinem-style” data-link-name=”in body link”2015 interview with Lena Dunham, she named it as an element of her “power outfit” that she wears when she wants to feel like “a rad bitch”.

The majority of Kors’s show was less rad and more the refined and tasteful clothes appreciated by the discreetly wealthy women that make up his customer base.

There were long herringbone coats, skirt suits and trouser suits, as well as sequin dresses and glamorous evening coats. A colour scheme of brown, taupe, camel on cashmere and tailoring felt very Succession’s Shiv Roy.

At a press conference before the show, Kors displayed a mood board of references for the collection – featuring 1960s and 70s stars including Steinem plus Jane Fonda, Aretha Franklin, Yoko Ono and Cicely Tyson.

“The women who intrigued me then and still intrigue me today are the women who break the rules,” he said. “They’re strong, powerful, smart [but] they’re happy to admit that they love fashion.”

As well as learning about feminism through these famous women, Kors also had a lesson at home. His own mother was featured on the board – an athlete and feminist who once tried out for the Philadelphia Eagles.

kors: Michael Kors channels classic 1970s New York style for latest collection

NEW YORK – Michael Kors channeled classic ’70s style for his latest collection, drawing inspiration from powerful women of the era like Tina Turner, Jane Fonda, Gloria Steinem and even his mother.

Steinem sat front row Wednesday during Kors’ york-fashion-week”New York Fashion Week show, which featured models sporting a variety of classic New York looks from the decade, including overcoats and thick leather belts and bell sleeves and dramatic bell bottom trousers, oversized sunglasses, suede boots and fringe.

“They never gave up on looking fabulous,” the designer said of his mother and Steinem. “That’s timeless.”

The show was packed with elite guests: actors Mindy Kaling, Katie Holmes, Kate Hudson sat front row, as did New York Gov. Kathy Hochul and Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour.

“West Side Story” star Rachel Zegler said the show’s appeal was obvious because “nobody dresses women like Michael Kors.”

Keeping with his love of New York city style, Kors relied on neutral colors while still incorporating his signature black and adding brown tones.

Fringe was woven throughout the pieces onto scarfs, clutches and mini dresses. Kors also drew inspiration from Greenwich Village and what the designer called its “blend of the urban and bohemian.” “There is this polish that is a very big city but then definitely a warmth and earthiness,” he said.

Kors’ looks weren’t just on the runway. Actor and dancer Maddie Ziegler wore a Kors suit – one of several stars wearing Kors pieces – and said the designer had a knack for designing a power suit tailor-made for women.

Michael Kors Presents Urban Bohemia for Autumn/Winter 2023 Collection – Prestige Online

On the last day of New York Fashion Week, Michael Kors closed the presentation with a reference to the 1970s, which according to the designer was always an inspirational era of fashion icons and urban lifestyle. The flair is undeniably sparkling through every single piece of the collection, as shown here below.

When we talk about New York Fashion Week, we talk about the practicality and anatomy of dressing accordingly. Some of the established brands have presented their latest takes on the fall season and it seems to us that everything was designed with the right proportions, not too much but also substantial enough to create major wardrobe staples for the upcoming chilly season. That’s at least what Michael Kors was focused on for its latest collection.

The designer recalled that his collection was inspired by the 1970s. Icons like Gloria Steinem, Cher, Tina Turner, Lena Horne, Ali McGraw, and Jane Fonda were the main inspirations along with the Greenwich Village, the neighbourhood he is familiar with during that age. That is why he calls his collection Urban Bohemia, a combination of big-city glamour and the era of bohemia.

The collection line-up includes shaggy shearling coats, long coats in minimalist cuts paired with super short pants, fringe and leopard everywhere, together with the ultra-wide belts hanging loose on the hips. High-knee boots are paired with sequins that were cut to follow the seventies’ dressing silhouettes. See the rest of the looks here.

Toxic pollution shame for high street brands including Clarks and Next over burning of offcuts

Scraps from clothes made for Clarks, Next and River Island are being illegally burnt, creating toxic pollution, an investigation has found.

The British fashion chains are among global brands accused of ‘rank hypocrisy’ after the revelation that their garment offcuts are being incinerated in giant plastic bags, emitting poisonous fumes.

Fabric, labels or scraps belonging to nine major companies were among hundreds of tons of textiles being burnt at warehouses in Cambodia.

A joint investigation by the Daily Mail and Unearthed, Greenpeace’s journalism arm, reveals how warehouses are burning the rags for fuel as it is cheaper than wood. Scraps and labels belonging to Nike, Reebok, H&M, Michael Kors, Diesel, and Ralph Lauren were also found among the mountain of offcuts waiting to be incinerated.

Images show workers amid towering waste while others reveal labourers stoking the flames of the kilns with the fashion offcuts although it is illegal to burn factory waste in Cambodia.

Last night campaigners and MPs urged the brands to take immediate action.

Tory MP Philip Dunne, chairman of the environmental audit committee, said the findings are ‘deeply troubling and pose major questions to some of the UK’s biggest clothing brands’.

Dr Laurie Parsons, of Royal Holloway, University of London, who has previously investigated the issue, claims poor regulation means companies can ‘get the green pound from looking green’ without doing the work.
