‘Is my husband the cheapest man in America?’ We only eat out on our anniversary.

My husband never goes out, and he only reluctantly takes holidays — except if we stay in a cabin in the mountains, and even then he doesn’t see why we should be paying for our mortgage and paying to rent somewhere else too. He has never bought me a single piece of jewelry in my life. However, we both agreed before marrying that a diamond engagement ring was a waste of money.

He does all his shopping at big-box stores, buys in bulk and wears clothes until they are worn through. He doesn’t use social media. From time to time we will go out to eat for an early-bird menu — on special occasions like our anniversary. The most ironic part about this whole thing? He’s an accountant! It beggars belief.

My husband works in IT and earns $90,000 a year. I am a teacher, and I earn $65,000 a year. We have a comfortable life. We have no children, and our monthly mortgage payment is $1,600. We are about halfway through the lifetime of our loan. We both have retirement accounts, and we are on track to have a comfortable life after we finally retire.

We have a good relationship, and we are in this for the long haul. I go out with my girlfriends when I need excitement, and my husband stays home with our dog, watching golf and cooking shows. He bakes cakes as a way of relaxing. But I wish we did more together, and if he made me feel special from time to time with a necklace or a bunch of flowers, that would

Bethenny Frankel has responded to social media critics calling her out for flashing her giant engagement ring. The reality TV star reacted to comments that she was “Braggy” about the 10-carat diamond ring she was given by her fiancé Paul Bernon. Frankel’s ring is reportedly worth between $1 million to $3 million.

According to the Daily Mail, Frankel told one critic, “Seems like it makes you feel jealous. Talk to a professional,” and another, “It’s called humor. Get a sense of it.” When one follower commented that the large diamond looked tacky, Frankel responded, saying, “Well you’re in no danger of getting it so.”

Another follower pointed out that Frankel was a security risk and in danger for wearing a ring that large. The reality TV star replied that the ring is actually stored in a “vault.” However, she’s been photographed wearing the ring publicly multiple times, so her story isn’t solid.

Ring found in MN wastewater treatment plant returned to owner

Back in March, the employees went to social media in hopes of finding the rightful owner describing the dirty discovery, “like a needle in a haystack.”

ROGERS, Minn. — After nearly 13 years, a person who lost something very special has it back on their finger thanks to a sparkle in some sewage and some empathetic employees at a Minnesota plant.

The woman, Mary Strand, met with reporters Wednesday to share her unlikely story, during which she laughed… a LOT.

Back in March, a diamond ring was discovered at a regional water treatment plant in Rogers.

John Tierney, a mechanical maintenance manager for The Metropolitan Council’s nine wastewater treatment plants, and a few coworkers were shoveling debris from the equipment when Tierney spotted the ring.

They went to social media in hopes of finding the rightful owner describing the dirty discovery, “like a needle in a haystack.”

But they were pretty confident the unique design of the diamond ring could be the key to finding their mysterious ring flusher.

And sure enough, the “precious” ring was reunited.

Mary told reporters on that fateful day she was using the downstairs bathroom in their home, washed her hands and was going to flush the toilet. At that moment the ring, which was given to her as a 33rd anniversary present by her husband Dave, slipped off her hand and plunged to the bottom of the toilet bowl.

“It was swirling around, I truly dove for it, and it went down

44% of beauty salons view social media as biggest opportunity for growth

44% of beauty salons view social media as biggest opportunity for growth

A survey from global salon supplies wholesaler SimplyHair has found that beauty salons are prioritising their social media growth, more so than website development, to drum up new business opportunities.

Alongside the development in social media, the survey also found that upksilling in new services and treatments, as well as retailing, are also key this year as salons up and down the country re-open.

Social media marketing for salon owners

44% of respondents said they are focusing on growing their businesses’ social media profile this year, while 35% of hair professionals see growing their social media profile as offering the biggest opportunities for business growth, with nine out of ten (89%) salon owners believing that social media presence has a strong or very strong influence on how a client chooses a salon.

Additionally, 78% of beauty and hair professionals agree that a strong social media following will help them to attract higher-paying clientele, and justify charging more for current services. The survey suggests social media platforms are more important for business growth than a company website, as less than a tenth (9%) of salon professionals’ primary business focus is website development.

The value placed on social media is also influencing other areas of business investment such as branding and aesthetics. 85% of salon professionals believe that brand look and salon design influence or strongly influence a client’s choice of salon, and 86% agree that high quality photography helps to attract higherpaying clientele or justifies charging more for current services.

Three quarters (75%) of respondents agree that “Instagrammable” salon interiors will help them to attract higher-paying clientele and charge more for current services. As a result, 1 in 10 (12%)

What You Need to Know About Opening a Salon

  • A hair salon can be a steady, profitable business, but before you open one, you need a strong business plan and preparation.
  • Finding a niche for your salon helps you attract a loyal client base.
  • The most important things a salon needs to succeed are a good culture, knowledgeable employees and an understanding of what its services are worth.

When it comes to owning a business, a hair salon is a pretty safe bet – the beauty industry is valued at $532 billion per year. Beauty is also a steady business, often remaining unaffected during economic recessions.

But even if you have the styling skills, launching your own business can be a challenging process that requires patience and know-how. The cost of opening your own salon is around $62,000 for a basic setup, but it can go up to $500,000 or even more. No matter how much you invest in your new business, you’ll want to do everything you can to ensure your salon’s success.

The cost of opening a salon

Before mapping out your finances and securing funding, you’ll want to consider what, exactly, you need funding for. Here are some common salon setup costs for aspiring owners:

  • Licenses and permits: To open a salon, you’ll need a business license and any permits required in your area. If you plan on selling products, you’ll also need a seller’s permit.
  • Real estate: You’ll have to find a place to either rent or buy. If you choose to pay a monthly lease, you’ll likely have to provide a security deposit upfront.
  • Payroll: This involves salaries or wages for the employees you hire, and all the associated benefits you choose to offer.
  • Salon equipment: A salon requires a ton of equipment, like beauty supplies, sinks, chairs and hair dryers. You may also

Countless tributes poured in for adored Canadian actor Gordon Pinsent on Sunday, with friends and fans recalling his playful humour and creative spirit.

The Newfoundland native and award-winning star of the film “Away From Her” died Saturday at age 92.

Admirers from actors and directors to politicians and everyday Canadians mourned and honoured Pinsent in the wake of his passing, calling him a national treasure, a charming storyteller and an icon of the arts.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau called him “one of the country’s most prolific and beloved actors,” noting his more than six-decade-long career saw him amass credits on the likes of “The Forest Rangers,” “The Red Green Show,” “Street Legal” and “the Republic of Doyle.”

“He won every major acting prize in the country, including two ACTRA awards, three Genie awards, five Gemini awards, and a Dora Mavor Moore award,” Trudeau said.

“Mr. Pinsent loved his province and his country deeply,” he said. “He entertained millions around the world and inspired us to say ‘yes’ to doing the things we love and to pursuing our dreams. On behalf of all Canadians, I extend my deepest condolences to his family, his friends, and his many fans.”

Pinsent’s family issued a statement thanking everyone for their support in a difficult time.

“A memorial is planned for spring when the lilacs are in bloom,” the statement said. “In lieu of flowers, in Gordon’s name, please donate to the charity of your choice.”

Canadian filmmaker Sarah Polley, who directed the 2006 drama “Away From Her” in which Pinsent turned in his best-known and most highly acclaimed performance, said he had “an enormous capacity for joy in absolutely everything he

Landis family featured in shoe retailer’s nationwide campaign – Salisbury Post

Landis family featured in shoe retailer’s nationwide campaign

Published 2:59 pm Thursday, February 23, 2023

LANDIS — As winners of Rack Room Shoes’ Real People Campaign, a Landis family of six will highlight spring and summer fashion trends for the footwear retailer online and in stores.

Brenton and Torrie Jarrett, along with their four children Bentley, Baize, Beacon and Braven, were selected for the campaign.

For the last 15 years, Rack Room Shoes has featured real customers in many seasonal advertisements instead of professional models.

The Jarrett family received star treatment at a photo shoot in Charlotte last month, which included professional makeup, hair, and wardrobe stylists. They are now featured on the retailer’s website, social media channels, and digital advertisements.

In addition to recently opening the Landis-based coffee shop, Willowbrook Grounds and operating a renovation company, Willowbrook Builders, the Jarretts run a farm, blog, and lifestyle IG account, @Willowbrookfarmlife.

Aside from the one-of-a-kind photo shoot, the family shared that the best part about the opportunity was enjoying the experience together.

“We’ve never done anything like this before and loved every bit of it,” said Torrie, who has authored a book sharing personal experiences of overcoming infertility and adversity. “I’ve learned that good can come from difficult times, and this was a great time. We will cherish these memories – and pictures – forever.”

Beginning March 1, the Jarrett family images will be displayed in signage across all Rack Room Shoes stores nationwide.

“We’ve been able to meet so many of our loyal customers through our Real People campaign, and we always enjoy getting to know families and connecting with them on a deeper level,” Rack Room Shoes Chief Marketing Officer Molly
